Road trip: Day 3

Blog Day 3

We can sum up today with one word.  Drove.

Neither of us had ever been through El Paso or in that area and we were surprised to see how the Mexico/US border is a fence that appears to be in the middle of town.   I also didn't realize the Rio Grande was so small and so shallow.  In fact, as we drove across it in Las Cruces, NM, it was completely dry.  I'm still trying to figure out the "Grande" in Rio Grande.

Texas landscape

There were billboards for hundreds of miles advertising "The Thing".  We stopped at "The Thing" to get gas but didn't even bother to pay the $2 to see it as I looked it up online and that was good enough for us.   If you want to know what it is, just Google "The Thing on I-10 in Arizona".

Lots of desert and lots of dairies and feed lots were about all we saw for hours and hours.

That's pretty much all we did unless you count a not so exciting stop at Wal-Mart to pick up some last minute supplies before we cross the border tomorrow.  We drove another 11 hours today so it's time to call it a day.

The houses in this pictures are in Mexico - as seen from El Paso.

The fence on the other side of the highway is the US/Mexico border.

Getter closer...
