On target!

It was a beautiful day today (low 60's!), so it was a perfect day for me to try my hand at shooting a rifle. Brett said a 22 would be a good starter, so he loaded me up and we headed out back. We have a target area set up, but it's kind of close to the donkeys and since this is still a new environment for them, I didn't think freaking them out with loud noises so close would be a good idea. We have a large burm that makes it perfect for shooting, so a simple target stapled to a tree and I was set to go.

Not exactly a bullseye, but I'm not complaining for my first try. It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought there would be recoil, so I was pleasantly surprised. In a lot of ways I liked it better than a handgun. Too bad a rifle doesn't fit well in your purse!

Been there, done that - another one off my list.

This is one of our new donkeys! We got 3 donkeys last week - a male, a female and a baby (female). Today, I decided to see if the male would let me lead him around the yard. For the most part, he was cool with it, but if he was done, there wasn't much I could do but wait until he was ready to go again. Other than that, there was no fighting me on it and in fact, he was being so docile that I decided to get on his back and see if he would let me ride him. I wasn't sure who was more surprised that I did that...me, Brett or the donkey! But he let me, so then we were all suprised! We only went a few feet as I don't fully trust him yet, but I'm excited now about how friendly he is.

We've had a lot of great suggestions for names but are still trying to decide - want to know their personalities first.

We received confirmation in the mail for our vacation this summer at the French Broad River Dude Ranch. Pretty stoked about that.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful - work, home, sleep, repeat. Oh wait - we had snow this week, so it was work, sit in traffic, home, sleep, repeat.
