Road trip: Day 18

Windy!  Woke up to the sound of the shutters clanging on the balconies and the wind howling.  This made it easy to say goodbye to Loreto.

Goodbye whitecaps.

We headed our right after breakfast.  The drive was not very exciting except for one point when the semi in front of us passed a truck and cattle trailer while on a curve.  We thought he was insane!  Then we noticed the cattle trailer door was slightly open.  After another curve the trailer door opened all the way.  There was only one cow inside but he wasn't tied so all he had to do was take one step backward and he'd be on the road.  We managed to pull up next to the driver and with continuous honking and hand motions, he pulled over.  Brett jumped out to close the trailer and the driver got out of the truck and didn't put the brake on so his truck started rolling away.  He managed to get back in and get it stopped and Brett got the trailer closed.  The driver still had no idea what was going on and got out and we told him the trailer door had been completely open.  He was VERY thankful.  And so was I.  I wasn't into the idea of his cow as a new hood ornament for my Ford Edge.

This was before the door opened all the way.

Welcome to La Paz.  You know you're getting into bigger cities when we start seeing clowns juggling, folks hula hooping, selling orange juice, etc. at the stoplights.  Hmm.  Wonder how much money I would make hula hooping at a stop light in Columbia?  Did I just find a new career path?

The best thing about La Paz?  The road turns to 4 lanes!!  It's been 2 weeks of driving on two lane roads.

Got to Cerritos Beach around 4:00.  Cerritos is such a great spot that we seriously considered buying a lot here years ago.  Back then, there was absolutely nothing.  No electricity.  No restaurants.  No hotels.  No houses.  In just the past couple of years, that has all changed. It is definitely growing fast.  Cerritos Surf Club has a RV park that pretty much just looks like a parking lot.  It's definitely not the most scenic of spots we've camped, but they let us put up our tent in the RV area (we were the only ones there) and then said we had full access to all the amenities of the Surf Club.  The Surf Club is beautiful and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner by the pool listening to the surf.  Back in our tent, even though we are on the other side of the parking lot, we can still hear the waves.
