Road trip: Day 17

Blog Day 17

Woohoo!!  Woke up to nice weather!

I see sun:-)

Took a beautiful hike over the hill from the resort. Lots of wildflowers blooming and butterflies.

Panorama view from top of hill.

When we got back, we did what we've been waiting 6 days to do.  Get in the pool!  We did the water aerobics class and then I laid in the sun and read while Brett went with my dad to do a tequila tasting.

Brett's in the pool!

This afternoon we took a tour of the behind the scenes areas.  This probably makes us sound like geeks but we both found it really interesting.  We saw how they receive, prep and store all the food for the 3 restaurants.  All of the these areas were immaculate.  Definitely won't be seeing Gordon Ramsey here!  The head of engineering then walked us through how the desalinization plant works, how it's built, how much water they generate a day, etc.  As the Baja is all dessert, the resorts need to have their own desalinization plants where they take salt water and make it fresh water for use in the resort.  This water is used for drinking of course, but also for all the cleaning, pools and landscape.

We finished off the day by having dinner and then watching the retro show put on by the staff.  The show was corny and there was only us and one other table, but everyone was having fun and that's what mattered.  After the show, they took us to the costume room where they showed us all the different costumes they have for shows throughout the year.  They make their own costumes and were very proud to show us around.

Tomorrow we check out and mom and dad head back to CA and we'll head south.
