Road trip: Day 33

Getting up and out the door by 8:30 when we went to bed after 1am wasn't easy.

We started the day by having breakfast in Torrance with Brett's cousins, LLoyd and Karen, and Lloyd's girlfriend, Tanya.  His uncle Lloyd also stopped by for a few minutes.  I had never met Tanya or his cousin Karen so it was great to finally meet them.  This is Brett's mom's side of the family.  Uncle Lloyd is his mom's brother.  Just like Brett's family, they too had a large crew with 12 kids.  His mom's other brother, Uncle Bud, had 13 children.  Brett's grandfather died when his mom was young so the 3 kids were raised primarily by his grandma.  I'm trying to imagine her thoughts as she raised 3 children as a single parent and then had 37 grandchildren from those 3!

After breakfast, we drove to Atascadero to see our nephew Richie (Barry's son) and his family.  The last time we saw them was 7 years ago and obviously, little Susie, wasn't even born yet.

Stopped at Madonna Inn for a few minutes just to get out of the car for a few minutes.  It's definitely eclectic, but I still don't understand the hype.  I must admit though, that the Christmas decorations were pretty,

Enjoyed a fun visit with Richie, Shannon and Susie.  It was great to be able to spend some quality time with them.
