Road trip: Day 31

Enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the dining hall.  This place has excellent food and it's all cooked on old government woodstoves!  After breakfast, took a hike and checked out the family cemetery.

Before we knew it, it was time to get back on the road.  We had decided to cross the border this afternoon instead of tomorrow morning.  Not long after we left, we looked at the odometer and saw that we hit 5000 miles.  Wonder what the final number will be when we get back to TN?

We always buy vanilla when were in Mexico and we hadn't gotten it yet, so we tried finding it in a little market.  I asked for it and they told me they didn't carry any.  And then she asked me to hold on a minute and went back to her house behind the store and brought me  what was left of her personal vanilla from her kitchen.  Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly enough, but that's what I call customer service!

Since our first meal in Mexico on this trip was tamales in Ensenada, we figured it would be fitting to have our last meal of the trip to be tamales in Ensenada.

Got to the Tecate border a little after 5pm.  Apparently crossing at 5pm on a Friday wasn't the smartest decision we've made.  It took about an hour and 45 minutes to cross.

So close and yet so far.  Artwork on the border fence.

Shortly after crossing into the US, we decided to stop for dinner.  Brett pulled up to a Mexican restaurant.  I asked him if he was serious!  Something just didn't seem right about that, so we ended up at TGI Friday's.

Our plan was to get to our Roy and MaryJo's house tomorrow, but they welcomed us early and we got here about 10pm.  Looking forward to visiting with family and friends tomorrow.
