Roswell, NM
Sometimes you need a little roadside repair. On the way to Roswell, Brett noticed flapping from the trailer. The trailer is not supposed to flap. Somehow, we lost three screws on the front skirt. Our assumption is that I10 was the culprit. That's one bumpy ride. Thankfully, Brett had some self-tapping screws and was able to repair it on the side of the road. This lifestyle often requires and ingenuity and patience.
Roswell...hmm, not sure what to say about it. It's, uh—odd. As you probably know, Roswell, NM is known for its association with the alleged UFO incident that occurred in 1947. According to reports, a flying object crashed near Roswell, and the government initially claimed it was a weather balloon. However, many people believe that it was actually an extraterrestrial spacecraft, and it has become a subject of speculation and conspiracy theories. Roswell is known as the "UFO capital of the world".
The town has capitalized on its association with extraterrestrial life and nothing is beyond being alien-themed—even the streetlamps.
As any good tourist would do, we checked out the UFO Museum. There are multiple annual UFO conferences throughout the United States. Who knew?
Every book is UFO related. |
Brett found some friends. |
So, what do you think? Weather balloon or extraterrestrials?
Texas
Went to Top Golf and of course I was going to post the final results! |
From there, we headed to Fredericksburg, TX. It's a cute little town that was settled by German immigrants. After getting our site set up, we headed to a German restaurant for sausage, sauerkraut, and hot potato salad.
They have piles of white rocks where you can add a prayer. The walkways are lined with these prayer rocks. |
We topped off the day with a late lunch and the most delicious carrot cake at The Ridge where they have beautiful grounds and a cute amphitheater in the back.
A visit with the Matchmaker!
After leaving Gulf Shores, we headed to Sulfur, LA to visit a childhood friend. Jennifer and I have been friends since third grade and she's the one who introduced me and Brett. It's been 11 years since we last saw each other, so it was an overdue visit. Had a fabulous meal and tons of laughs!
We're back on the road!
We left Fort Myers on 4/13 and are headed to California for a family wedding. Our first stop was Tampa, FL. Remember that awning we lost back in September in New Hampshire? Well, we had it replaced in Tampa back in October, but when they put the new one on, there was a dent in the tube, so we went back to have it replaced again.
Next stop was Gulf Shores, AL, where we stopped to visit with our friends, Kelley and Ronnie and Pat and Richard. They treated us to a wonderful meal and we taught them to play uDog. It was a nice relaxing visit.
Great times with friends who have become family. |
